The 5th edition of Times Higher Education Impact Rankings was released in June 2023. This year, KAUST ranked 101-200 out of 1,625 institutions from 112 countries and regions and 1st in Saudi Arabia, tieing with two other institutions.
The Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings are the only global performance tables that assess universities against the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The SDGs are 17 global goals that aim to eradicate poverty, protect the planet, and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity by 2030. THE uses carefully calibrated indicators to provide comprehensive and balanced comparisons across four broad areas: research, stewardship, outreach, and teaching.
For the third year, KAUST has participated in the impact rankings, and our performance has consistently improved. Below is the overview of how KAUST performed among all institutions on each of the SDGs submitted:
The ranking results were release during the Global Sustainable Development Congress convened by THE and hosted at KAUST. The congress brought together representatives from 267 universities which discussed important sustainability topics across several themes, including sustainable cities and communities, sustainable energy and industry, sustainable health and demography, and sustainable environments.
Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 places sustainable development goals at the forefront of national priorities, and KAUST is dedicated to supporting this vision. As part of the Kingdom’s commitment to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and under the Vision 2030 plan, KAUST has been working toward achieving these objectives, as stated in Saudi Arabia’s latest Voluntary National Review.
