On World Environment Day, KAUST inaugurated its new Sustainability Action Lab, a dedicated space designed to foster sustainability literacy and catalyze interdisciplinary dialogue within the KAUST community. The launch of this hub reflects KAUST’s commitment to advancing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and integrating sustainability thinking into daily campus life.
Located at the campus spine, the Action Lab provides an inviting environment open to all members of the academic and residential community. Through a permanent display of information on each of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), an informal lounge and a group discussion zone, it aims to integrate sustainability across disciplines and demographics, but also highlights the importance of understanding, measuring, and embedding sustainability knowledge across the university ecosystem.
Beyond campus, the Action Lab can also serve as a valuable touchpoint for engaging school groups and visiting delegations, offering a foundational understanding of sustainability concepts through SDG-themed visuals. To increase engagement with the space, the Office of Sustainability plans to collaborate with the Students for Sustainability to create an annual program for the room, esuring continuous engagement around the SDGs.
