The Green Gown Awards, recognized globally as the leading global awards program for sustainability in higher education, has named KAUST’s, Frontiers for Young Minds’, and United Nations Development Programme’s (UNDP) SDG Collection a finalist in the Benefiting Society category for 2024. The award honors institutions that are advancing sustainable practices and creating positive social change and this category highlights initiatives that make a direct, positive impact on communities by addressing global sustainability challenges.
The SDG Collection, created in partnership with UNDP and Frontiers for Young Minds, simplifies complex scientific research aligned with the United Nations’ 17 SDGs into accessible, engaging content for young audiences. It empowers children, aged 8-15, to explore sustainability topics and foster critical thinking through peer-reviewed content tailored to their understanding.
This recognition highlights the impact of collaborations between academia and international organizations through creative educational tools. By promoting sustainability literacy among children worldwide, KAUST, its partner UNDP Saudi Arabia Country Office, and the Kingdom are contributing directly to SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, and Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 goals of advancing knowledge-based development.
