KAUST is proud to release the third edition of its SDG Highlight Report, reaffirming the University’s commitment to sustainable development through science, education, and real-world solutions. The report captures institutional efforts over 2024 across three core areas — Education & Research, Operations, and Engagement & Outreach — while introducing a new section titled Accelerating Impact to spotlight flagship initiatives driving measurable progress for the Kingdom and beyond, in line with the university’s new stratregy.
This edition highlights KAUST’s role in shaping global and national sustainability agendas. From leading the KAUST Coral Restoration Initiative and the Algal Biotechnology and Aquaculture Center to participating in high-level dialogues at UNCCD COP16 and UNFCCC COP28, the report reflects a growing alignment with both the UN 2030 Agenda and Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030. The report also celebrates the contributions of student champions whose voices are featured for the first time, reflecting the next generation’s role in driving change.
“KAUST made significant strides in consolidating its sustainability agenda,” said Dr. Ana Margarida Costa, Chief Sustainability Officer at KAUST, adding that “Sustainability is not a parallel track – it is the lens through which we approach every challenge and opportunity”.
With the release of this new edition, KAUST aims to further institutionalize its sustainability mission and inspire collaboration across sectors of society and other Higher Education institutions in pursuit of a more equitable and resilient future.
